Key Ingredients and Substitutions

This simple chia seed pudding comes together with just a few easy ingredients like berries, plant-based milk, chia seeds, and a touch of sweetener. You can swap in your favorite fruits, any non-dairy milk, or different natural sweeteners to make it your own!

Ingredients for berry chia pudding including blueberries, chia seeds, maple syrup, vanilla extract and soymilk.
  • Soy Milk (or Favorite Plant Milk) – Adds creaminess and helps blend everything into a smooth base. It also has a neutral taste that lets the blueberry flavor shine. You can use almond milk, oat milk, cashew milk, or coconut milk if that’s what you have on hand.
  • Frozen Blueberries – Give the pudding its fruity flavor and gorgeous purple color. They also blend up smooth and help keep the recipe affordable year-round. Fresh blueberries work too, or you can swap in frozen mixed berries for a different flavor.
  • Vanilla Extract – Rounds out the flavors and adds a cozy, dessert-like vibe. A little goes a long way, but it makes a big difference. You can skip it in a pinch, or use a splash of almond extract for a fun twist.
  • Maple Syrup – Lends gentle sweetness without overpowering the blueberries. It blends easily and keeps the flavor balanced. Agave syrup or honey-style vegan syrup work well if you need a swap.
  • Chia Seeds – What turn the mixture into pudding. They absorb liquid and thicken everything into that classic creamy, spoonable texture. Make sure they’re fresh, and give the mixture a good stir to avoid clumps.

Serving Tips and Suggestions

Get the most out of your blueberry chia pudding with these simple tips for perfect texture and flavor every time. Plus, we have fun add-ins and tasty toppings to make it even more delicious and Instagram-worthy:

  • Coconut Crunch – Top your blueberry chia pudding with toasted coconut flakes and candied pecans. The crunch pairs perfectly with the creamy texture. It feels like a little treat in a bowl.
  • Banana Berry Boost – Add sliced bananas and a handful of fresh berries on top. The extra fruit (like in this mixed fruit salad) makes it sweeter and more filling. It’s colorful, fresh, and super satisfying.
  • Chocolatey Swirl – Drizzle a little melted vegan dark chocolate or sprinkle cacao nibs over the top. The rich chocolate flavor is amazing with blueberries. It turns pudding into dessert real fast.
  • Nut Butter Drizzle – Swirl in almond butter or peanut butter right before serving. It adds richness and makes the pudding extra filling. A little drizzle goes a long way.
  • Fresh Citrus Pop – Finish with a pinch of lemon zest (like in this lemon olive oil cake) on top. It brightens the blueberry flavor and makes everything taste fresh. This small touch makes a big difference.

Chia Pudding FAQs

How long does blueberry chia pudding last?

This dairy-free chia pudding will stay fresh for up to 5 days if placed into sealed containers in the fridge.

Can you use other fruit in this chia pudding recipe?

You sure can! Besides blueberries, you can use lots of different fruits in chia pudding! Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, mango, peaches, pineapple, and banana all work great, using fresh or frozen fruit. Each fruit adds its own flavor and texture, and you can even mix a few together for fun combos. As long as the fruit is blended with the milk and the chia seeds are added after, the recipe stays easy and turns out delicious every time.

Can you freeze pudding with chia seeds?

Yes! You can freeze chia pudding with blueberries, but there are a few things to keep in mind. The texture might get a bit firmer or slightly gel-like after thawing, so it’s best to stir it well before eating. Freeze in an airtight container or individual portions for easy grab-and-go snacks, and thaw in the fridge for a few hours or overnight. For the best flavor, you can also add fresh blueberries or toppings after thawing.
